Lauren Waring Douglas is a producer from Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Media Arts. 

Lauren began her professional career as a production coordinator for South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV). Some of her projects include credits with Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, A&E Television - Biography Network, and ABC Studios. She received her Master of Arts in Media Management from Columbia College Chicago at the height of the Great Recession, which started a series of defining moments in her life. At one point, Lauren was temping for three different agencies. Feeling “defeated,” she packed her things and moved back to South Carolina, but something immediately happened when she crossed the border into her home state. Her phone started ringing, and someone offered her a freelance gig with each phone call!

It confirmed what she always felt inside: a significant focus of her life’s work would be in South Carolina, uplifting and celebrating the stories of her Gullah Geechee heritage. She has produced and hosted community workshops for the SC Film Commission. Her experience there inspired her to co-found the SC Media Collective, a social support group for South Carolina’s Black filmmakers and industry professionals. She is also the co-founder of the AfroSouth Film Festival, which celebrates the contributions of Black and Southern culture to film.

Lauren is also a proud alum of the New Orleans Film Society’s Southern Producer’s Lab. Her current projects include Rooted, E is For: and When Porgy Came Home, the untold story of Charleston’s famous opera, Porgy and Bess.

Lauren seeks to give voice to the oft-silenced Gullah Geechee culture of South Carolina.
